Tracks
This year we have decided to try something new and given you the option of selecting Tracks rather than having you rank each individual workshop. Please rank the following workshop tracks 1-5. However, if none of the tracks appeal to you and you would like to choose on a purely workshop-to-workshop basis, please check the “Random Workshop Selection” option and rank all the workshops on the following pages. If you select a track, you do not have to rank all the workshops. Click on the Track title for a brief description or visit the Tracks section on the website for description of all the tracks and the workshops associated with each track.

Gender and Sexuality
There are few issues as global as those of gender and sexual freedom. Across cultures, people of different sexual orientations and personal lifestyles grapple with issues such as legal rights for transgender individuals, political opportunities for women, and untraditional careers and gender roles for men. By presenting some controversial and current ideas concerning South Asians, gender, and sexuality, this track will challenge you to become a more conscientious individual will call for changes to the status quo.

Pop Culture and the Arts
Poetry, film, fashion, and food are a few ways South Asians have made an impact on American culture. From "Basement Bhangra" to Bollywood, South Asian culture has become a hot commodity in the West. This series of workshops will let you get in touch with people making their mark on society through the media and arts. We will explore how "South Asianness" is represented in the public eye, as well as how the South Asian diaspora represent themselves, creating hybrid, global cultural forms that blend together elements of Desi and American culture.

Social Justice and Polotics
South Asians play a strong role as activists worldwide. Often viewed as the "model minority" and comfortable middle-class, those of South Asian descent are rarely seen making their mark by creating social change. This track will shed light upon South Asian (American) political involvement, showing the multifaceted ways we are taking steps to create more equitable societies. Issues that will be addressed include immigration, civil rights, coalition building, government involvement, and more.

Economics and Development
South Asia is rapidly developing and the prospects for its economies are rising. The development of South Asian countries is no longer an independent domain; rather, South Asian economies are interconnected with one another as well as with those abroad. This track will explore South Asian economic development and the role of South Asians within the global economy. Specifically, the question of whether South Asian Americans have a loyalty and commitment to the American economy or South Asian economy will arise. Workshops in this track will complicate people's perceptions by showing both positive, negative, and often overlapping results of globalization.

Science and Technology
South Asia is a forerunner in the pursuit of technological and scientific advancement. The region has produced several pioneers in the field of science, and due to the booming IT industry, South Asia holds many fast-paced metropolises to deal with global advancements. In the technological race, one must wonder: is technology alienating or uniting people around the world, and why is there such a disconnect between poverty and technology? Beyond examining these questions, concerns about the environment, public health, and more will be explored.
